What No One Tells You About Breasfeeding (5 minute read)

Oh what a topic to write about.  **Click Below To Listen**  Disclaimer: this is a lengthy post.  I missed last week's post so I'm making up for it.

So I exclusively breastfed my daughter 2 weeks shy of 6 months. I completely weaned her on my birthday as a gift to myself. It was also around the time when Florence Leung’s husband released a statement about losing his wife.

I’d consider myself a realistic optimist so I try my best to understand and accept why horrible situations happen and I try to see the silver lining in them (Without logic and reasoning to some of the darkest moments of humanity, I don’t think I could do my day job).

A sad and unfortunate event gave me the courage to do a good thing for myself. Her story resonated with me not only because we gave birth around the same time but it struck a strong chord within the Chinese community, bringing awareness of postpartum depression and conversations about mental illness. My dad’s a news junkie (especially stories invol…

Please Read This Before Touching Someone's Child (3 minute read)

I don’t touch other people’s kids without asking their parents or the kid themselves first.**Click Below To Listen**  First of all, kids are gross. I know kids touch everything and anything. Aside from being a mom, I’ve been a babysitter, a camp counsellor, a tutor, a piano teacher and a tennis coach for elementary school kids. Their grubby, sticky little hands have been in their nose, their ears, their mouths, handrails, toilets...anything and everything.
I remember this one time I was walking downtown and noticed a little boy was walking ahead with his older sister. This little boy was running his fingers along the walls of every single building he walked by. Then I saw him pet a stranger’s dog, pick his nose and then grab his sister’s hand before crossing the street, all in the span of 30 seconds.

So I don’t want some kid’s germs all over me plus all the germs he’s picked up during the day. I treat my body like a temple. I’m a huge baby when I get sick so I’d prefer to take care of…

A New Way To Think About Your Period (3 minute read)

I get periods. I menstruate; I bleed every month for several days on end. **Click Below To Listen**  I’ve been doing this for the last 20 years (minus 9 months + the breastfeeding effect lasting about 4 months). When that time comes, I get a little on edge. I have a love-hate relationship with my period. I love getting them because then I know the end is here and I will soon get to experience the blissful days of my cycle (at least until next month).
I hate getting them because cramps, headaches, belly bloat and sluggishness suck. The hormonal cycle of emotions is the worst part to manage. Basically, it’s something I dread and look forward to every month.

Whether you get them or not, a period is a necessary process for our species to continue and so it’s kind of a big deal.

When I first got my period, I was actually pretty excited because both of my sisters had joined the club already. Always wanting to catch up to them is a running theme in my childhood.

So this was like the third tim…
